Finished Almost Perfect yesterday and it was pretty good (although not as good as Twilight Streets which is the bestest TW book ever).

The pace was good, although I didn't like the "chapter" titles 'cause either they gave away what was going to happen or made no sense at all. Female!Ianto was funny, as was Jack and Rhys but the book did nothing to improve my love for Gwen.

It was nice to see that they miss Owen and Tosh and realize how much Tosh did for them tech wise. Also I can so see Owen putting bottles of beer in the cooler next to the liver.

Having said that, I had a few problems with the book.

You could tell that it was written by a guy because Gwen was acting all jealous because Ianto looked "perfect", was pulling the 'threatened female' bit (which made her come off as kind of a bitch in that regard). Can we, for the love of all that is holy, please stop with the Gwen/Jack? kthanxbi. I don't know about you, but it seems to me that the only time that happens is on TV.

Also there was the running joke that Ianto couldn't get that heels were not good for running, etc. and that he though jeans made him fat. Yes there are girls like that but overall, we seem to dress for the situation and aren't constantly worried about how fat we look.

Also there was a "that time of the month" comment, which made me laugh 'cause I was hoping for one but I had to get halfway through before getting to it and then it was only in jest (FYI: they could've asked Gwen, not Wikipedia, since she'd know first hand...at least I think she would).

Also, Jack seemed a bit OOC a few times; there were parts where he was bounding places and seemed a bit to peppy, even grinned goofy. Not at all like the emo/serious!Jack we all know and love.

And I'm pretty sure that Ianto has sworn more than five times.

Overall it was a good book, better than Pack Animals and slightly better than SkyPoint.

I did think that the book dealt with the female!Ianto issues by going for the cliché gender-poking laughlines rather than going for the more serious trans-issues at heart (although it did touch on them slightly). As far as fashion was concerned I would have prefered Ianto to go for the tomboy/andro route but that's me!
The Facebook status as chapter headings was genius and I am definitely voting for the gay-mafia from Hell, The Perfection to make an appearence in the main show as villians as they were fabulous!

that is true; I couldn't help but 'lmao' at the dinner party scene where Rhys tried to explain how a guy's "tackle" felt.

and I would have loved a tomboy!Ianto as well, although whenever he was talking to Patrick and ended up making out with I couldn't help but wonder what he reaction would be if he ever found out that Ianto was a boy. ;)

I liked the book in general, but agree with you on pretty much everything you said. And Ianto just didn't feel like Ianto for the most part--and not just because he was a girl. For some reason I think Ianto would make an awesome girl.

he would wouldn't he?

I think that Ianto wasn't Ianto voice-wise because he was distracted by suddenly being a girl and having all the bits that go with it (lol).
