Work has been out for about a month and I'm finally settling into some kind of routine, but I still want to do stuff around the area. I discovered an ice cream company that makes boozy ice cream (i.e. with alcohol in it). They're based in NYC but sell/ship it around the country and there's a place about an hour from me so I want to take a day trip to get a pint so I can see if I like it or not before ordering online.

Beat Mass Effect: Andromeda just after work let out, I really like the game and yeah, there are flaws in the story/animations but it got me through a really rough patch so I'm kinda upset that it's looking like there won't be any single-player DLC for it (We need to know what happens to the [spoiler redacted]). Now I need to figure out what I'm going to play for the rest of the time I'm off (I started Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag but gave up because I'm horrible at stealth), right now I'm flipping between Overwatch and Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Going to finally buy a car either this month or next month! I have 3 models that I'm considering but am leaning towards one in particular, but we'll see when it comes down to price and what I like in general.

My sister is off at IndyPopCon this weekend and texted me last night that she got to have a small conversation with Matt Ryan yesterday and she said she liked Constantine and learned a lot about the character from the show. She also told him that I knew him from AC4 and that I cosplay Connor (his character's grandson) and he said that was pretty cool, but I'm sure he was just being nice about it.

And that's pretty much it.

Saw Red Tails this weekend and it's a brilliant movie. It's about the Tuskegee Airmen during WW2 and how they got into flying protection with the bombers in Europe.

This is really a passion project for George Lucas because he's been working on it for ages with the actual Airmen and had to pay for everything himself in terms of marketing because no studio would touch it. Why? Because it features an all African-American main cast. Also it's not like a "normal" war movie because you don't have the standard "Glory" formula with a white commander leading an all African-American squad.

The movie is actually the middle script of a three-part series (George even said that to think of it as an "Episode 7"). The first one shows their training and the beginning of the program and then the third one shows how they have to deal with the racism after the war because over in Europe they were reguarded as equals to the pilots they flew with and were told that they owe their lives to the Red Tails. But then they had to come back to the US where they were suddenly reguarded as second-class citizens and what they did in Europe didn't matter.

I think was brilliant because it wasn't the standard WW2 movie; it showed an aspect of history that they don't really teach in school but the Tuskegee airmen played an important part in the war effort in Europe.

I'm urging people to go see it and tell the movie studio with their money that we need to see the rest of the series. That a movie about WW2 can have an all African-American cast and still be amazing.

The next day brought Kavan Smith, Chris Judge, Paul McGillion and Ben Browder! As well as a hangover from the drinking the night before! But that was not as awesome as the entire day.

Kavan was up first and I'm surprised he was as coherent as he was since he didn't get out of Eureka until 8pm and then didn't get to the hotel until 5am and his panel was at 10am. But damn he was hot (even with a hat on)!

Once Chris' panel was done it was time for Kavan's photo op and I hung towards the back of the line, excited and nervous at the same time. All too quickly it was my turn and I was very cool, keeping the squee under control. I shook his hand said that I was a big fan. He went to do the classic con pose of hugging me but I wanted to do something cool and the first thing that popped into my head was standing back-to-back with our arms folded. I asked if that was ok and he said "what ever you want." My mind went to smutty places but I just smiled. After the photo I said that I really loved Andy and Kavan said he enjoyed playing him.

After that I watched mackenziesmomma get her photo op with Kavan and was DYING at what he was doing (go see her explanation of it because I can't do it justice).
