Summary: Everything changed in an instant
A/N: Written for the practice round at writer in a drawer
Something was wrong.
I had been flying along looking for food amongst the dark green foliage when all of a sudden there was a bright light and then I was in an unknown area.
Instead of the warm, humid air there was a bitter wind and the vibrant colored trees and plants had been replaced by dark strange colors; black, blue and yellow.
And the noises were different, the roars and growls of the other animals were gone; in their place loud shrieking and screams that seemed to pass overhead at an incredible speed.
Trying to get my bearings I flapped my wings in order to gain altitude and soared over the strange habitat while looking for any familiar points; the mountains and plains that had been near my nest were gone and no matter how many times I called out to my young or my mate but neither responded.
Becoming more and more disoriented, I gave a loud call and flew off towards the water while weaving around the tall blocks that seemed to sprout from the ground and touch the sky.
I reached the water and felt calmer, although I was still worried about my young. Settling onto a large stone I tucked my wings close and wondered what had happened to both my mate and young. Needing to know that they were safe, I called out to them but was still met with silence.
After I had rested, I pushed off and flew around the water, letting the silvery moonlight glitter off of the brackish liquid and give me some comfort. However all too soon the coldness started to seep into my body and I knew that I needed to find somewhere to rest for the night.
Heading towards the shore until I could fly no more I landed on a strange tree; its leaves were hard as well as slippery and when I tried to sink my claws to get a better grip they made a loud clatter.
Hopping off of the tree, I landed on the hard ground and looked for somewhere to rest. Suddenly feeling warmth coming from somewhere I gave a loud squawk and followed it until I was inside a large cave.
Feeling better now that I was protected for the night, I looked for a perch and after finding one settled in for the night.
The next morning brought the same challenges as the night before and I was starting to feel the hunger gnaw at me, but I could only think of how my young must be feeling after not eating at all. That thought spurred me into flight and as I flew wondered how the jungle could have changed so much in an instant.
The water that had been a brilliant blue was now dark and there were strange objects bobbing in it and there were strange red and orange objects flying across the jungle floor.
It had all changed and I was by myself.
The cave had become my refuge; I could perch on the ceiling and mourn the loss of my mate and young.
One day a strange creature appeared. He seemed nice but I was wary; I had no idea if it was going to attack. However the creature just stared at me and then went away. It came back a few days later and this time brought another creature like it. This one smelled good and the first one had something strange that looked good however, instincts kicked in and I tried to drive them away from what had become my territory.
The one that smelled good somehow managed to hook its claws into me and as I tried to shake him off felt something sting her, then it fell.
Feeling sleepy I was slightly aware of falling to the ground and then blackness over took me.
When I woke up I was somewhere different yet again but this time I was in a nest. Stretching my wings I took off to explore my new surroundings. There were other creatures like the ones I had first seen but they seemed to ignore me which was fine; I ignored them as well.
As time passed I realized that I would never be able to get back but at the same time the thought didn’t sadden me as much as I thought it would; I had found a new home among the creatures and would look after them as if they were my own.
