massive spoilers for the episode

Oh My God.

I just finished the first episode of Children of Earth and...OH MY GOD!!! The end had me on the verge of tears and...I can’t put into words how awesome it is so far. I’m gonna fucking cry by the end of this.

I thought that they would slowly get into it and yes that did happen, but at the same time the writers threw you into the action right away. There were a lot of WTF!? GONNA CUT A BITCH/BASTARD moments and it was mixed in well with the humor bits (although there could have been a bit more of them).

One thing I really liked was the on-going uncertainty of Jack and Ianto’s relationship; you could tell that Ianto was really invested in it and while Jack played it lightly when there was the ZOMG!KISS!!! at the end it was pretty clear that he cared as well.

When Ianto was at his sisters it was pretty clear that he was still somewhat ashamed that he was seeing Jack. It was a good commentary on how things are today; that while it’s pretty much accepted for gays to be out and about there is still a large percent of the population that are adverse to it. (side note: my parents are apart of that population which is why they’re never going to meet some of my friends...it’s not that I’m ashamed of my gay/bi friends, I love them to pieces it’s just that I know what my parents would do if they ever met them)

Also I have to say that Ianto is the typical uncle; showing up and giving his niece/nephew money...and does it say something about the crime rate in Cardiff when a SUV with a triple deadlock gets jacked? And I can most assuredly say that the mooning part of that scene will get cut in America.

The fact that Jack had kids was somewhat surprising; I mean that a man of his “charms” had to have a few “loose” ends out there but at the same time I think that it really said something about him that he wanted to stay in contact with his kid(s?). He could’ve just left his family and never looked back but he didn’t; he wanted to be involved with her and his grandson. But at the same time, his daughter was right; Jack is dangerous to be around with because there’s no telling what the hell will happen around him. That being said now I want to know how many “families” he's had over the years.

Somehow it doesn’t surprise me that Gwen is pregnant, she and Rhys were talking about it when he was looking at the house/she was driving and you could tell that she doesn’t want kids and on TV the women always gets knocked up when they don’t want them. And I love Rhys to bits; can he get any more adorable? I love those Welsh vowels.

At first I thought that they had found the new Owen so it was a WTFH BASTARD!? when he shot Jack, which had to hurt like a sonofabitch btw, and then proceeded to let in SpecialOps!Bitch and cut him open (and not in the good way). So yeah...wasn’t real disappointed when he got shot as well (which I called a good five seconds before it happened kthanxby).

However, I do think that they have found the new Tosh in the Home Office temp. She doesn’t know what’s going on and seems more comfortable around computers than people so it wouldn’t surprise me if she somehow ended up helping them.

What I want to know is why does the Government suddenly want to get rid of Torchwood? The only reason I can think of is that they somehow think that they’re helping the aliens take over the kids and therefore need to be EXTERMINATED!

Or they just want to stop paying them a shit load of money.

Whatever the reason, don't they understand that Torchwood could actually help with this type of thing? Oh wait, they're bureaucrats which means they have their heads up their ass' to far to see reason. :)

Gwen’s conversation with the Bastard!Doctor at the beginning of the episode seemed to hammer home what Torchwood, and really the whole Whoverse, is about; there’s nothing like discovering that aliens are real and out there to make you realize how small you really are.

It also started to debate the whole issue of religion vs. science and how society is starting to drift further and further away from religion and take more stock in science. But I digress....

Jack's car was fucking awesome, he should drive something like that more often.

no spoilers for future episodes in comments please!

I LOL'd at this, thanks!

The triple-deadlocked SUV? All I could figure there is that deadlocks just keep out sonic screwdrivers and the kids used a brick :D

And the "recruit" who turned out to be a murdering SOB -- WOW. I did not see that coming!

Really, though, my favorite part of this episode was Jack and Ianto working out what their "relationship" is, and what they want from it. And when Ianto spontaneously hugged Jack after hearing he'd died -- and Jack hugged back -- I got a lump in my throat.

good point although I don't think the Doctor is the type to drive an SUV but hey, you never know! lol.

my favorite parts were the Jack/Ianto bits as well; I went 'awww' when Ianto hugged Jack.
