Ren Faire pt.1
Jul. 27th, 2009 06:55 pmwent to the Ren Faire yesterday and it was pretty awesome. Went with Tori,
x5649,
reyclou,
x5649's niece (?) Beth, as well as my friends Corrie, Frances and one of Frances' friends.
I took so many pictures that I actually used up my SD card! Those shall follow in a separate post ^-^
First we saw the ship and then were going to walk around but we got distracted by the stocks (with someone in them) and I giggled because that reminded me of Merlin and how he always ends up in them, but that's beside the point, and the guy running it hollered for us to come and "torture" the guy (pour water over him) so Tori and I went up there and poured some water on him until one of the Ren guys threw a bucket of water behind him.
Then we walked some more and saw a juggling show; 'Gypsy Geoff'. He was very entertaining plus he had fire which was the selling point. Here's the following conversation between him and
x5649 (with me piping in):
GG: Want to see tricks with fire?! You trust me, I'm American.
x5649: That's supposed to make me trust you?
GG: Well as much as you trust your American boyfriend -wink-
Me: Actually he's Welsh.
x5649: *cracks up*
GG: Oh *sadface*
Later on I clarified that it was Ianto I was talking about since I lay claim on PC Andy ;)
he had a little kid from the audience come up and help him and the boy was so!cute. Geoff also escaped from a straitjacket and a heavy link chain which was awesome.
Then we walked around for a little more and saw Dirk & Guido: The Swordsmen! (or as they say 'stupid men with sharp things') and they showed people how to do the "super secret swordsmen laugh" as well as duel (last time I saw them teach how to behave towards a lady).
After that we all got something to eat, then split up and I wondered over to the Noble's Glen and satisfied my inner Ren!/History!geek by taking pictures of all the nobles. They had a guy playing Robert Dudley so I tried to keep a straight face when he said that it "was his pleasure to keep Your Majesty company in public at all times." I wanted to ask him if he had plans to marry the Queen but never got around to it (there's always next time though).
I watched them do a few dances then left to grab seats for the Joust. It was awesome as last time, although this time I sat on the opposite side and there were two "new" guys; my section was cheering for Sir Edgeron of Aquitaine. He actually got snarky/bad ass this year
bitemetechie! Our group enjoyed heckling the guys (save Edgeron of course) and even got two of them to respond back ^-^
During the first joust one of the "bad" knights said something about him and he looks at all of us, we were sitting in the front row, and says "Just wait till I get to hit him. That's my favorite part." we all cheered ;)
Then when the first joust ended we wondered around and took part in a 'woo-ing contest' where someone who worked there would pick a guy and a girl and teach the guy how to "woo" the girl and then the judges (me, Tori,
x5649, Beth and
reyclou) would rate on how he did. Tori,
x5649 and me all took part although my first guy didn't do so good (turns out he was married) but the second guy did better; but he stumbled a little on a compliment (your eyes are like the stars during the day) however he did manage to make me blush a little (apparently I didn't feel them turn red) and we all got free non-alcoholic drink coupons for participating.
until it was time for the "joust to the death" and it was BRILLIANT! The story went like it did last year with Edgeron winning so we all cheered for him. At the beginning we were boo-ing one of the "bad" knights (the one from Spain I think) and he looked at us, pointed his sword and yelled "Shut up!"
we laughed :D
After that we caught 'Robin Hood and Little John and the 7 deadly sins' show and Holy Hell! it was funny as hell. They had a spinner with the 7 deadly sins on it with Lust being the biggest one (there was even a Potpourri category to which Robin Hood said 'Vatican Two' and me and one other person burst out laughing) so they kept singing songs about Lust. There was even one about beastiality...and yeah, never gonna think about a moose the same way.
Towards the end they did a song as Public Enemy (the rappers...not the movie) so they had clocks as necklaces which was funny in itself but they kept going "off script" and there was one bit before the second to last song where Little John said something that made Robin burst out laughing (it didn't help that a guy bought him a beer during the show) so Little John was like, "do you want me to break him?" and we all shouted "yes!" so he turns to Robin and says 'Vajayjay' and Robin turns bright red and just stands there laughing for five minutes.
After the show we slowly made our way to the car and then went home.
it was pretty awesome and I want to go back before the season's over with.
