CoE Day 5 reaction/rant
Jul. 28th, 2009 09:50 pmspoilers for the episode
*gives a specific two fingered gesture to RTD*
That about sums up my feelings for Day Five/how it ended.
Talk about a cop out.
The only good thing? The Bastard politicians got what was due them. No sympathy for the PM nor anyone else involved with it. And of course the American’s have to go charging in and take over things ‘cause that’s what we do; we force our ideals on countries who might not want them.
I’m split on how Jack acted. Yes there was little time to lose but at the same time SpecialOps!Bitch (who was slightly less of a Bitch in this episode) said that whatever he needed they could get. I’m sure that they could’ve gotten a kid from somewhere...but I fully understand why Alice hated him; he sacrificed his own grandson to save millions of kids he didn’t know. It’s the whole ‘the needs of the many out-weigh the needs of the few’ debate.
And I know that him running away is part of him (that’s what he’s done from The Doctor Dances on up) but I’m just so pissed off that Gwen found some way to make it all about her yet again. AND WITH RHYS STANDING RIGHT THERE! Bitch does not deserve him…
Also, not feeling bad that Frobisher killed himself/his family; he did it only because he didn’t want his daughters to be used by alien junkies. I also smiled a little when ThamesHouse!Guy got shot in the leg; it even endeared me a little to SpecialOps!Bitch since she did the shooting.
He only stood up to the PM when his own kids were being threatened, doesn’t earn points in my book.
The explanation of why the 456’s needed/wanted the kids? Kinda lame. Maybe if it was that they provided some kind of anti-bodies/some shit like that then maybe it would’ve been ok, but I think that RTD wanted everyone to feel really bad for turning into drug dealers.
And the way how they defeated the aliens kind of made Ianto’s/everyone in the MI-5 building death seem in vain. If they had only thought that they needed to use a non-confrontational way to defeat the aliens then he could still be alive...but then again RTD couldn’t way the massive ‘fuck you fans!’ flag that he’s hoisted up.
Seriously...not a big fan of the man at the moment.
But we did get to see the preggo!patch from Something Borrowed again...
On thing I did love was PC Andy, he was adorkable as ever and I even cheered a little when he took off his PC jacket/vest and joined the guys who were attacking the National Guard/solders. I even giggled when he asked who the father of Gwen’s baby was, gotta love the ribbing at Rhys’ expense.
And now here’s the part where I play devil’s advocate.
People have been talking about how there might be an s4 There's going to be a s4 and honestly I can’t see it. What the hell are they going to do? There’s no more Hub and I don’t think that they can just whip up one under the stadium, plus who the hell’s gonna run it? Somehow I don’t think that Gwen can run Torchwood and manage a newborn.
And there’s the fact that there’s no Jack. He was the one who knew how deal with everything when the shit hit the fan and could explain the alien technobabble when Tosh didn’t handle it.
I think that when RTD wrote this he was in the mindset of ‘If I’m leaving and can’t run Torchwood then no one can’.
Also there’s the movement to bring back Ianto. First off let me say that I would LOVE it if he did but having said that let me also say that there are a few flaws in the plan.
First off, how the hell is he going to come back? Yes there could be the second Risen Mitten but that would only work for five seconds and then we’d be back at square one with him dead. Or there could be the other Mitten that brought Owen back but even then they’d have to fight Death and providing that Ianto won there would be a limited amount of time until he went back to being a corpse (plus him and Jack couldn’t go “weevil hunting” anymore).
Secondly, there’d be the awkwardness of showing up at his sisters place and having them freak out since Gwen told them that he was dead; plus it would be kinda hard to explain how/why he’s suddenly alive again.
Please don’t hate me, this is just IMO.

Date: 2009-07-29 04:11 am (UTC)As much as I love DW and TW, this seems to be a pattern in both series. And quite frankly, I'm damn sick and tired of it.
That's the reason he chose to sacrifice his own grandson. For one, he felt responsible for what happened in 1965. Secondly, choosing a child of someone else would've made him no better than aliens. Basically, he made the ultimate sacrifice for the sake of our children.
Also, I don't think Jack was in the right frame of mind. It was clear to see that Ianto's death just completely broke him...
And I know that him running away is part of him (that’s what he’s done from The Doctor Dances on up) but I’m just so pissed off that Gwen found some way to make it all about her yet again.
How in the world did she do that? The woman had lost three of her teammates, and her leader was about to completely ABANDON her. Hell, I would've done the same thing in her position.
From my viewpoint, this was basically a shout-out to the Doctor.
If you remember, Jack said something about walking up behind the Master and breaking his neck. That's when the Doctor replied with "Now, that sounds like Torchwood." Sarah Jane Smith also made a remark about Torchwood having "too many guns". Basically what this means is that Torchwood ALWAYS goes in GUNS BLAZING. That's just how they do things.
Seriously...not a big fan of the man at the moment.
Judging from his reaction to the fans - coupled together with what he has said about Supernatural - I've successfully labeled him as a complete and utter DOUCHE.
There's going to be a s4 and honestly I can’t see it.
There isn't going to be a s4. That was just a rumor started by someone at Comic-Con. John did say, however, that they were "thinking about it."
Personally, I don't think there's going to be one. Basically what RTD did was kill off the one thing keeping Jack here on this planet: Ianto.
And there’s the fact that there’s no Jack. He was the one who knew how deal with everything when the shit hit the fan and could explain the alien technobabble when Tosh didn’t handle it.
Agreed. But let's be honest here: Jack is just not leadership material. He has fucked up way too many times.

Date: 2009-07-29 08:22 am (UTC)I think this is what I have a problem with more than what actually happened in Children of Earth. And the fact that he's commenting about Supernatural, while mildly amusing, really kind of pissed me off. I mean, you treat your fans like they don't matter, you don't get the right to talk about my fandom! But yeah, I think I'm more angry with RTD over the way he's handled this, than the actual events of Children of Earth.

Date: 2009-07-29 01:17 pm (UTC)Me as well, but then again you can't poke fun at people without the sterotypes and frankly, it is what we've been doing for the last couple of decades...
he made the ultimate sacrifice for the sake of our children.
yes he did, and I also pointed out that it was kind of like 'the needs of the many outweight the needs of the few' type thing.
Also, I don't think Jack was in the right frame of mind. It was clear to see that Ianto's death just completely broke him...
Hell, it broke me!
How in the world did she do that?
She asked if there was nothing worth staying/coming back for and Jack just looks at her/says no, then Gwen is all 'what about me?' I can understand not wanting him to abandon her, but still...
From my viewpoint, this was basically a shout-out to the Doctor.
ok, I will give you that. Yes they do and it seems to a) always fuck things up even more and b) work. And it helps a little when Jack has the BFG ;)
I've successfully labeled him as a complete and utter DOUCHE.
I don't know what he said about Supernatural so I can't hate him for that, but the one Behind the scenes thing for CoE I saw he was all but patting himself on the back. Prick.
That was just a rumor started by someone at Comic-Con.
ah, ok. This is what happens when I listen to Katie and not read any of the articles (lol).
Basically what RTD did was kill off the one thing keeping Jack here on this planet: Ianto.
that he did, plus he pissed off all the fans of the show and esp. the Janto fans, so there's no love for him atm.
Agreed. But let's be honest here: Jack is just not leadership material. He has fucked up way too many times.
yes he has, but you have to give him some kind of brownie points for trying...
