Chicago SG Con report (second first half)
Sep. 6th, 2009 11:55 amHere's what was supossed to be the first half of the SG con report; I just started school and such so this was the first chance I got to post it.
We got there late so
x5649 and I missed the beginning of his talk but came in during a funny border crossing story. Apparently his name got tagged on some kind of list and so when he and his wife tried to get into Vancouver they had to get out of the car and prove who they really were. His wife said that Gary needed a middle name so he decided to make it Paul.
Then he went into a mini-story about he went to a psychic and she said that his name was Paul. Gary said no and that it was Gary. Then the psychic was like, “I seem to be getting all this Paul energy from you.”
Which was weird when it came to the whole Paul thing.
So he gets a middle name and when the paperwork comes back he sees that his name is now ‘Gary Paul VonJones’ Apparently his wife didn’t think that his name was interesting enough and added the ‘Von’. So now Gary says that he’s some kind of German aristocrat with a Welsh name.
Then he talked about the episode in s6 where it looks like reading a tech. manual when in reality he’s reading Vanity Fair. DeLouise directed the episode and the scene that Gary was in everyone was in the War Room (conference room, buffet room) and Ba’al is threatening to blow up the Earth (again) and so it takes a while to get everything ready so Gary is just reading and waiting for the actual take. So he tunes Peter out and then all of a sudden he hears, “and we’re moving on” which they say when they’re done with the scene. So he’s like ‘shit’ and goes to tell Peter that he had tuned him out and such and Peter was like ‘I know, but the way we shot it looks like you’re reading a tech. manual.’
Gary also told a story about an episode where he gets to shoot a gun and said it was awesome, but apparently was told that the way he left was girly.
Conner was awesome in so many ways. He talked about Enterprise and Michael (obviously) and also about how there were a few series that he almost got on but didn’t. He missed out on Mad Men and Will & Grace; apparently he kept going back for auditions and the producers were saying that he was going to get the role but because he had done one of the soaps with another producer (to disastrous results; he said he could do magic when he couldn’t) he didn’t because she remembered his stint on the soap.
Also he’s on the last episode of The Closer but he fired his manager over that because it’s a bit role and to him that’s taking steps back instead of forwards so he said that he’d audition for the role but if he got he wanted his manager to turn it down. He got it and the manager accepted it so Connor fired him.
He talked about Michael and how the writers did too much of the ‘you did this to me’ when he also thought that there was much more he could do with the character.
And he also talked about the last episode of Enterprise and how he thought it was a tribute to Trip that the entire episode was about the character and how it was giving UPN the middle finger for canceling them.
After the Friday night Cabaret (which was basically ‘Whose Line Is It Anyways?’ with Stargate) there was Karaoke at the hotel bar and ZOMG! It was awesome.
x5649 got up and sang ‘Bad Moon Rising’ and Connor was down there for awhile, he even jumped in to sing along with the chorus of ‘Wanted Dead or Alive’.
That is now my favorite song.
Michael was hilarious as usual. He talked about a bunch of things, how the Blackhawks suck, about SG as well as Burn Notice and some of the other movies he’s done.
In regards to Burn Notice he said that it was awesome but hot. He was sweating bullets and changing shirts after every take while Jeffrey Donovan was cool as a cucumber and Vic was a really good character to play and that he liked how the character died in his last episode; that the people go to know how/why he became that way and then at the end got to redeem himself. He also said that Vic was the one character he hated to see die.
And apparently Michael’s a Bruce Campbell fanboy and so when he arrived on the set of Notice had a fanboy moment when he got to meet him for the first time. (That made me wish I had brought along my Army of Darkness shirt)
Someone brought up Megasnake and Treasure of the Grand Canyon and he asked how many people had seen Megasnake and a good group of people raised their hands (including me); he said that there were too many people to take out. Then he asked about another really old movie (don’t know the name) and a few people raised their hands; he said that that was more manageable. Finally he asked about Treasure of the Grand Canyon and a lot of people raised their hands; he said that was going to be impossible. After that he then made fun of how SciFi changed their name.
Another person asked what the strangest fan experience was and he said that in Europe a girl brought a...“pleasure device” for him to sign. At first he was like ‘uh...no’ but then he saw that 12 other people had signed it so he did. And then someone else from the audience said that she was friends with the person who had asked him. He replied that's why he never really talked about those kinds of expierances because there was always the chance that that person or someone who knew the person would be in the audience and then it was many kinds of akward.
He also talked a little about SGU and how he's in an episode but not playing Daniel then he's going to be in a second episode playing Daniel. Michael also said that the fans should give SGU a chance despite all the flak they've been giving the show and even if they hate it they should watch it just for the sake of complaining about it on the Web.
His favorite episode (as well as Amanda’s) was Heroes and his favorite (Amanda’s as well) species was the Nox.
Amanda was such a sweetheart. She came on stage and talked a little about Sanctuary and how they just finished shooting s2 and that the season was better than the first.
She also talked about how Robin Dunn likes to drop his pants at random times while filming and also burst in to song as well.
Amanda also told a story about Unending and how during the scene where Landry dies and then Sam and Teal’c hug during one take the door opened and Chris was wearing rip-a-way track pants so he ripped them off and was wearing a thong with the Stargate: SG-1 logo on it. And apparently he also liked to moon people when they were doing the close-ups.
Chris is really gassy as well; apparently he can clear a room. There was one episode where Chris got into a spacesuit and let one rip after he got all sealed up so the rest of the crew were happy that they couldn’t smell it while watching Chris go from brown to green ^-^
Amanda also said that it was a challenge to do both directing and acting but it was something that she really liked doing both.
