Chicago Con-Sat (part one)

sgteam14283The next day brought Kavan Smith, Chris Judge, Paul McGillion and Ben Browder! As well as a hangover from the drinking the night before! But that was not as awesome as the entire day.
Kavan was up first and I'm surprised he was as coherent as he was since he didn't get out of Eureka until 8pm and then didn't get to the hotel until 5am and his panel was at 10am. But damn he was hot (even with a hat on)!
He talked about Eureka and how with Andy the grin was all his-they told him to smile and he did, they loved it so they kept telling him to do it. But then Andy would get frozen or whatnot and so he'd have to keep the grin and it got to the point where it would hurt. He also said that the cast of Eureka is the most welcoming, funny and awesome cast that he's worked with. He also said that if they hadn't been canceled that there would have been a real-life "model" of SARA! Kavan said that for Andy that would've been great because then Andy wouldn't have to go into a closet to have sex with air ;)
Also he was surprised that people remembered 4400 (why wouldn't they, it was a pretty awesome show and he was awesome on it) and said that since towards the end USA Network didn't like the show so there was no plan to do a wrap-up movie of the series. IMO that really sucks because the way that they ended it left it hanging and a movie (even a direct-to-DVD movie) could have wrapped some plot lines up... (plus we would have gotten TWO Garrity's!!)
Someone had a question about 'Sunday'-if Kavan really painted the picture Lorne was working on and he said that the writers came to him and asked if he had any kind of talent. He pulled painting out of his head and didn't think of it until they asked him to draw something. What he managed to draw was a couple of stick figures, so they had a "real" artist sketch out the outline and then he painted it.
I managed to keep my squee down enough to ask him if once Eureka was done he'd consider doing a role on NCIS, Rookie Blue or any kind of cop drama and he said that if it was offered to him he wouldn't turn it down. Which I understand since you want to work as an actor as much as you can to get your face out there so people will consider you for future roles.
Someone asked about his role on Sanctuary and if there would be more of the role. Kavan said that he got asked to reprise it earlier but couldn't because of the conflict with Eureka but now that they're almost done shooting he'd love to revisit the role and be on the show again!
Kavan also talked about his twitter account (the one that Colin Ferguson started for him) and how he loves it but at the same time it's like brain crack and it's either that or his family and he wants to spend time with his family. And yes, Twitter is brain crack-you can easily spend way too much time on it.
He closed with a story about how he crashed his motorcycle while in the States. He managed to break his arm and give himself a concussion. Since he was worried about insurance, he didn't want to be taken to the hospital and after getting checked out by the medics was riding along with the tow truck guy mentioned that he didn't have the insurance. So the guy said he knew a guy who'd fix the bike for a case of beer and then another guy who'd check him out for another case of beer. After getting the bike fixed and getting checked out he talked with his mother who told him not to sleep but Kavan said he was fine. Then he made his way into San Fran (I think) and, in pain from the broken arm, went to get something to eat. He's sitting at the bar, ordered his food, and waited....and waited...and waited. Finally he flagged down a guy to ask how long it took to get his food out and the guy said he'd asked Kavan if he was ready to order five different times and that's when Kavan decided it was a good idea not to go to sleep.
After his panel there was a minute or two break and then Chris came on. Right off the bat he said that he was in the new Batman movie and that was all he could say (that makes me think he has a bigger role than just a bit-part). To be honest I found it hard to pay attention to his panel because most of the questions were about the pranks he pulled and I found him to be a bit of an ass (plus he tended to ramble on and get side-tracked a bit). Chris is funny but an ass.
One awesome thing that happened was that Paul crashed Chris' panel and he was wearing a Cubs shirt! :D Half the room (including me) were all 'YAYAY!' while the other half were all 'BOOOO!' (since they were White Sox fans) and then the rest were all 'HUH?' (since they were from out of town and didn't get the whole thing between the Sox and Cubs), That was the best part ^-^
Once Chris' panel was done it was time for Kavan's photo op and I hung towards the back of the line, excited and nervous at the same time. All too quickly it was my turn and I was very cool, keeping the squee under control. I shook his hand said that I was a big fan. He went to do the classic con pose of hugging me but I wanted to do something cool and the first thing that popped into my head was standing back-to-back with our arms folded. I asked if that was ok and he said "what ever you want." My mind went to smutty places but I just smiled. After the photo I said that I really loved Andy and Kavan said he enjoyed playing him.
