Author's Note: This is a story that I came up with thanks to the 'When Plot Bunnies Attack' forum at ff.net. It's from the First Sentences Challenge and is number 56. This also picks up where my (recently finished) fic 'Not Your Normal Teaching Job' leaves off, featuring my OC Maxine 'Max' Wainwright and Logan Cale from 'Dark Angel'. If you haven't read the above fic you might want to if you don't want to be too confused.

Review's are welcome!

“There’s something I’ve been meaning to tell you…” I say trailing off. I stare at my reflection and sigh, that’s as far as I’ve gotten in trying to come up with a way of telling Logan that I’m pregnant.

I honestly don’t know why I’m here in Seattle. I know that he was heading here for a bit before starting work again at the SGC and I guessed that being on familiar ground will soften the blow. I hope.

Come to think of it, I guess that being sent home myself was a good thing but I can’t help feel like I’ve been exiled; I’m not working at the moment, I hardly see my old friends, and Lydia’s being sent to New Mexico while Crysta is either always at the Mountain or with the guy she met on Atlantis.

I’ve thought it through and decided that I’m not going to have an abortion and am not going to give the baby up for adoption, but if I raise him/her alone or with Logan is still up in the air.

I try again. “There’s something I’ve been meaning to tell you. You know how the IOA suddenly appeared on Atlantis before you left? Well…”

Yea, that’ll work, go for subtlety. That always works. I run my hand through my hair and growl in frustration. Maybe I should just move back to Chicago, that way I wouldn’t run into Logan and he wouldn’t ask potentially awkward questions. Yea, that seems like a good idea, though deep down I know that I won’t.

Taking a deep breath I stand and grab my cell phone. I have to thank Lydia for giving me Logan’s cell number (as well as the ‘Mommy’s Little Metal head’ shirt she had made for the baby). Dialing it, there’s a part of me that hopes he won’t answer.

But he does.

Logan.” I hear the warm, gentle voice say.

I hesitate, not sure if I should even be doing this.

Hello?

What the hell? “Hey, it’s Max.”

Max.” he says, surprised to hear my voice. “This is a surprise. I thought that you were staying on Atlan-the base.

“Yea, I was but there was a change of plans. I’m in town and I need to talk to you, is there somewhere nearby where we can talk?”

Where are you?

“The Hilton Head on Park.”

Yea, there’s a little coffee shop just half a block west. It’s called X5. I’m already halfway there so see you in 10 minutes?

I gulp, 10 minutes. “Ok.” I manage to get out, my mouth suddenly going dry.

See you soon.

“See you.” I say to the dial tone.

X5; 11 minutes later…

The door opens and I glance at it, hoping that it’s not Logan.

It is.

He walks over to the counter and orders a coffee. I watch him as he’s waiting for his order and realize how much he looks the same, maybe a little scruffier since he’s not working, but that extra scruff makes him look even more ruggedly cute. I realize that I’m checking him out and blush, my cheeks turning red.

Damn hormones.

Logan grabs his coffee and turns around, scanning the shop for me. He spots me, smiles and makes his way towards me.

As he walks over I take a deep breath, it’s the moment of truth.

“Hey there,” Logan says, sitting down across from me. “it’s nice to see you.”

“You too.” I reply, forcing a smile. “Been busy?” I ask.

Logan shrugs his shoulders. “Sort of, had to talk with my uncle about my investments in the family business, but other than that I’ve just been catching up with my friends.” He takes a sip of coffee and then sets the cup down, looking at me. “What about you? When I left you had decided to stay there another two years.”

“Yea, like I said there was a change in plans.” I let out a weak laugh. “Isn’t it funny how we end up back here around the same time?”

“Uh-huh.” Logan says, raising an eyebrow. “What’s up? We didn’t exactly leave on the best of terms.”

It’s now or never. “Well, you know how about four months ago we…” I trail off, knowing that he’d understand what I was trying not to say.

He nods his head in understanding and says, “I know.”

I take a deep breath and continue, “There’s something I’ve been meaning to tell you…” I trail off, not sure how to continue. What the hell? I might as well tell him straight out. “I’m pregnant. About four months to be exact.”

I’m silent after that, just letting the news sink in. Logan’s expression isn’t telling me much, it’s just blank. “You-and-wow.” He stammers out.

“Yea that was pretty much my reaction as well.” I say, slightly glad that he’s taking it so well.

“Is that why you’re here?” Logan asks.

“Yup. Carson had to notify the IOA and the IOA made me leave. I’m not working at the moment but I want to go back after the baby’s born.”

“When’s the due date?”

“Mid-November.”

We’re silent after that and I feel like I have to clarify why I’m here. “Listen, I don’t want money or publicity; I just came here to let you know. And I understand if you want nothing to do with me or the baby.”

I stand and leave, not giving Logan a chance to reply. Driving back to the hotel, I feel like an immense weight has been lifted off my chest.

My flight doesn’t leave for two more days so I spend the time sightseeing and shopping. Logan calls a number of times but I don’t answer my cell and delete his messages without listening to them.

I did what I came to Seattle to do.
