Review's are welcome!

A month later…

It’s the middle of the afternoon and I’m driving towards my parent’s place, coming back after running some errands. I’m five months along and you can just tell that I’m expecting. I found out at my last doctor’s visit that it’s going to be a girl and my parents have accepted the fact that I’m going to become a single mother.

Life is good.

As I near the house I notice that there’s someone’s car in the drive but don’t know who’s. Pulling up to the curb I cut the engine and look towards the porch. Seeing someone there I get out and start up the walk. As I do, the person turns around and I can see who it is.

It’s Logan.

I stop for a second but then continue up; I guess he’d show up eventually. He spots me and meets me halfway. I paste on a smile, “Hey.”

“Here, let me take your stuff.” Logan says grabbing my book bag before I have a chance to protest. “You never returned any of my calls.” Logan comments as we walk towards my car.

“I know.” I say, amazed how civil the conversation is, like we’re talking about the weather or sports. “I figured that everything had been said when I was in Seattle.”

“You’re wrong, there’s something I need to tell you.” Logan tells me as we near the door.

“What?”

Logan just smiles, “I’ll tell you tonight.”

“Huh?”

“I’m taking you out.”

“What do you mean ‘you’re taking me out’?”

“To dinner. I’ll pick you up at six-thirty. Wear something nice.”

I snort. Something nice? Try finding the perfect black dress in a maternity size. What the hell? I’ll humor him. “Ok, see you then.”

“Great.” By this time we’ve reached the door and he hands me my bag. “I have to get back to the mountain. I’ll see you later.” Logan then gives me a quick kiss on the cheek. And the funny thing is that I don’t stop him.

That evening…

Logan takes me to a little hole-in-the-wall place that we both know and dinner was nice. We talk about this and that, dodging around the subject that we both knew was the ‘elephant in the room’ (so to speak). Outside it had cooled off immensely, and for once I wasn’t feeling like I was in an oven.

“You want to take a walk in the park?” Logan asks me as we head towards his car.

“Sure, why not?” I say. I could use the exercise. We pass the parking lot and head across the street to the small park. Somewhere between the street and the park we end up holding hands and I don’t break the hold. We walk along for a bit, not talking, until Logan guides me to a bench and we sit down.

“We need to talk.” He says.

I nod my head in agreement.

“After you told me you were pregnant I did some thinking; I want to make this right.” I open my mouth to protest but he holds up a hand silencing me. “I know you said that you don’t want anything, but I can’t let you raise our child by yourself. I want to be a part of its life.”

“Hers.” I say softly.

“Hers?”

“It’s a girl.”

Logan smiles, “I want to be a part of her life.” He then pulls out a box, gets down on one knee, and opens the box to reveal a diamond ring while saying, “Maxine Wainwright, will you marry me?”

To say that I’m surprised would be an understatement.

“I...can’t.” I reply, shaking my head.

Logan is taken aback. “What? Why?” he asks.

“You’re doing this because it’s the right thing. I don't want to be married to someone because of a mistake.”

“But I do love you Max.” he says, moving back onto the bench. “I could have just let you deal with this by yourself but I didn’t.”

I can see that he’s sincere. He’s right, he could have just left well enough alone, but he didn’t. But I still feel that he’s doing this for the wrong reasons. “I’m sorry but I can’t.”

“Why? Give me a good reason and not ‘because I want to marry for the right reason’.”

“Because I’m moving to San Francisco in two weeks.” I reply, avoiding his gaze. I guess I would’ve had to tell him eventually.

“For how long?”

“I don’t know.”

Logan doesn’t say anything and just shuts the case with a ‘snap’. We walk back to the car silent and the drive to my parent’s place is quiet except for the humming of the engine. After putting the car in park, Logan turns to me and says, “Sure you won’t change you’re mind?”

I shake my head, “I’m sure.”

“You’ll keep in contact?”

I smile. “Of course, you’ll be number one on my speed dial.” I then open the door and get out of the car.

Turning around I watch him drive off and I sigh; he seemed like he really wanted me to say yes, but I just couldn’t.

As I walk back up to the house, I can’t help but think if I made the right decision in moving to the West Coast. But I push the thought out of my mind as soon as it appears; of course I’m doing the right thing, I just can’t deal being in the same town as Logan and I just need to clear my head and get my life back on track.

I'll add it to the list, They played it at the concert I went to last year but Richie Sambora sang it instead of Jon Bon Jovi and it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up it was that good
