Spoilers: 'Sunday'
A/N: This is what happens when I watch TOS Trek and then an episode of SGA with Carson in it. Takes place after 'Enterprise Incident' and is a AU Trek where the SG program existed and they knew about it. And I blame Dusty for this 'cause she's the one who helped plant the bunny (but it's a good kind of blame). None of the characters belong to me and reviews are love so please leave one!
“My family hasn’t always been engineers, Doctor.” Montgomery Scott said scathingly as he set three shot glasses down on the table as well as the bottle of Scotch, uncorking it and pouring the amber liquid into the glasses.
“Is that so?” McCoy asked, raising an eyebrow.
Vaguely Kirk knew what his chief engineer was talking about, there had been times when the three of them were unwinding in the lounge after getting off duty and would talk about their families and shared stories of their ancestors.
“Aye.” Montgomery nodded while gently twirling the glass of Scotch. “We’ve had our fair share of politicians, captains, even doctors.”
“Doctors you say?”
“Yes.” Scotty said with a spark in his eye. Picking up the glass, he tipped it back and swallowed the liquid in one gulp. Smiling at the sting it produced, he looked at the now empty glass before setting it down. “The tradition started long ago; my great great great great granddad was a true Scot and wonderful doctor.”
“What was his name?”
“Carson Beckett.”
“Beckett? The same Carson Beckett that was with the Atlantis Expedition?” Bones asked, slightly surprised at the revelation.
“The very same; he was with them the first three years, died in an explosion the fourth year after saving a man’s life.”
“But if he was in Pegasus then how’d…”
Scotty smiled and chuckled, “Before he left he was seeing my great great great great grandma, Victoria. She didn’t find out until after he left and even though she tried contacting him he never responded and it wasn’t until after the Program went public did she finally learn why he disappeared that first year. He came back to see his mum from time to time, and Victoria told him on his second visit but she didn’t want to hold him back from what he was doing. When she got word that he had been killed it broke her heart; she said that he was the only man for her and always felt that he was watching over her.”
“Didn’t they disappear again the fifth year?” McCoy asked, trying to recall the bits and pieces he remembered about the Atlantis Expedition from Academy lessons.
“They did, and it wasn’t until a few years later that the United States learned they had all died defending the Atlantis Gate from the Wraith.” Kirk supplied.
--
Carson watched his how-ever many great (at this point it was hard for him to tell) grandson as he recounted his family history. It warmed his heart that Victoria had never forgotten him. True he had watched over her; after ascending he popped down to Earth from time to time in order to see how she was getting along and to watch his son grow up, marry, and have a family of his own. Sometimes he wished that the explosion hadn’t claimed his life and he was actually with them instead of hiding in the shadows.
But he was glad to know that his family line continued far in the future and even if Montgomery Scott wasn’t a doctor he was a damn fine engineer and Carson was proud to be related to him.
